Very few Americans realize there exists a large network of far left philanthropists and foundations in America dedicated to destroying the American way of life, our Christian-based culture and our free enterprise system. They seek to remove America from its constitutional foundations and move it toward European style socialism. Much of this effort is coordinated by a little known group called the Tides Foundation and its related group, the Tides Center. Reportedly, one of the largest contributors to the leftist paymasters is John Kerry’s wife, Teresa Hines Kerry.
Teresa Heinz Kerry has financed the secretive Tides Foundation to the tune of more than $4 million over the years. The Tides Foundation, a “charity,” established in 1976 by antiwar leftist activist Drummond Pike, a well-known communist, distributes millions of dollars in grants every year to political organizations advocating far-Left causes. The Tides Foundation and its closely allied Tides Center, which was spun off from the Foundation in 1996 but run by Drummond Pike, distributed nearly $66 million in grants in 2002 alone. In all, Tides has distributed more than $300 million for the Left.
These funds went to rabid antiwar demonstrators, anti-trade demonstrators, domestic Islamist organizations, pro-terrorists legal groups, environmentalists, abortion partisans….
The entities the Tides Foundation has chosen to fund are overwhelmingly leftwing. The so-called “legal left” (its own referent) has been a prime beneficiary of Tides largesse. One of its principal beneficiaries, for example, is the National Lawyers Guild (NLG), which began as a Communist front organization and remains proud of its lineage. Its national convention in October 2003 featured a keynote address from Lynne Stewart, a lawyer specializing in defending terrorists who has been indicted by the Justice Department for providing “material support” to Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, whose organization, known as the Islamic Group, bombed the World Trade Center in 1993, killing six people and injuring more than a thousand.
In 2003 a report titled: “The Tides Foundation…Liberal Crossroads of Money and Ideas,”….was published….by the Capitol Research Center, a conservative watchdog group in Washington, DC.
The report….charged….the Foundation is….used as a channel for wealthy liberals to make donations to activist causes….without being tied directly to the activist organization….claiming…. between 1999 and 2001 the Howard Heinz endowment, one of two of the Heinz endowments, donated $4,298,500 to the Tides Foundation or the Tides Center.
A statement by the Tides Foundation disputed the Capitol Research Center’s estimate of more than four million dollars in donations to Tides….saying….the Heinz Endowments have given only $230,000 to the Foundation….between 1994 and 1998 ….however, a document on the Heinz Endowments website itemized its own donations to the Tides Foundation and the Tides center….totaled…. $8,116,000 between 1994 and 2004.
We might however, put aside the numbers, focusing instead on the end results of these donations by liberal leftists like Kerry: Our country in turmoil, institutions and traditions under attack and concentrated, intentional seditious subversion of our constitution and the freedoms it protects.
In closing: The radical left agenda is anathema to a free society and a harbinger of intentional destruction of those things which make America a shining example of freedom around the world.
